Dr Weston Price noted that those races who continued to eat their native foods retained their robust health and excellent physiques. Once native diets were abandoned, however, in favour of refined foods people’s health declined rapidly and resistance to infection was soon lost. Price noted, too, that degenerative diseases became progressively more marked with each succeeding generation. He called it ‘intercepted heredity’.
This problem of ‘intercepted heredity’ was demonstrated in a remarkable study which replicated what Weston Price had earlier observed and documented in humans. From 1932 to 1942, Dr. Francis Pottenger conducted an experiment to determine the effects of heat-processed food on cats. The experiment included 900 cats over four generations and was well documented by Dr. Pottenger. These studies met the most rigorous scientific standards of their day. There is no similar experiment in medical literature.
The cats were divided into five groups. Two of the groups were fed raw milk and raw meat. The other three groups were given processed meat and milk.
All four generations of the raw food groups remained healthy throughout their normal lifespans. However, disease developed earlier and earlier with each succeeding generation of the cats fed processed foods
- The first generation of all three processed food groups developed diseases and illnesses near the end of their lives
- The second generation of all three processed food groups developed diseases and illnesses in the middle of their lives
- The third generation of all three processed food groups developed diseases and illnesses at the beginning of their lives and many died before six months of age
- There was no fourth generation in any of the three processed food groups Either the third generation parents were sterile or the fourth generation cats died before birth!
“While no attempt will be made to correlate
the changes in the animals studied
with malformations found in humans,
the similarity is so obvious that
parallel pictures will suggest themselves.”
Nowadays the study of epigenetics is hot news in scientific circles. Epigenetics is “the study of changes in organisms caused by modification of gene expression rather than alteration of the genetic code itself“
Weston Price called it “intercepted heredity” Dr Pottenger demonstrated in his cat study. And surely” the similarity is so obvious” in the extent of human diseases we are seeing today, most tragically in children and young people.
Dear God, your wisdom is revealed in Creation. Please give us your wisdom, for our future depends upon it.
Let’s take a look now at the work of another great scientist, Lieutenant Colonel Robert McCarrison. He too conducted a study into the relationship with diet and health – but this time it was mental/emotional health:-
